Selena Gomez has sparked a controversy with her images taken during her trip Abu Dhabi. One of the photos infuriated Moslems for showing her ankle inside the Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque. The former Disney darling visited the mosque on Monday, December 29.
According to the mosque's official website, those who visit the place should wear "long, loose fitting, ankle length trousers or skies for women and men" and "women must wear a headscarf." After being criticized for showing too much skin inside the mosque, she deleted the picture from her Instagram without saying anything.
People also took issue with another photo which showed the pop star posing with her friends, including Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Cody Simpson and Shay Mitchell, at the mosque.
"Disrecpectful! It's a religion place not a place to have fun in, so disappointed," one commenter said of the goofy image. Another wrote, "If their intent was to learn about Islam they wouldn't be posing like they were standing outside and amusement park."
However, some others defended the "Come & Get It" hitmaker. "It's a place of worship, yes I know, but God never forbade the entry of other religions into any mosque. So please respect the fact that they actually want to get to know Islam and its beauty," a fan wrote. Another said, "I am Muslim and I really don't understand the fuss about this."
Gomez flew from L.A. to Dubai on December 27 to celebrate the New Year. She shared some pictures to show how she kicked off 2015. "Guess who came matching HAPPY NEW YEAR," she captioned an image showing her and Hadid wearing matching sexy outfits.
