Wikipedia's organized a public photo competition on cultural heritage monuments, Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM) 2014, which its results have been published.
Ukraine's Holy Mountains Monastery's photograph taken by Konstantin Brizhnichenko has been selected as the best picture of the competition. MrsEllacott of France came to the second place by taking picture of Gare du Nord, a railway station of France. Third place was taken by a picture of a picture from Norway taken by Siri Uldal. This year, Wikimedia Foundation's 41 countries branches organized WLM competition. The competition was first organized on Netherlands in the year 2010, and was followed by a Europe-wide 2011 edition. Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 and 2013 went global and was organised in several countries around the world, including Canada, Chile, India, Panama, Ghana, the Philippines, Russia, South Africa and the United States.
"With over one million free images of heritage sites across the world, Wiki Loves Monuments is one of the world's most important projects dealing with history today", the international coordinator of the competition, Deror Lin said. "Year after year, volunteers document hundreds of thousands of heritage sites across the world, upload the images to the Internet under a free license, for the benefit of the current generation and the next generations. These people display the splendor of creativity and culture in their countries".
Contestants got the opportunity to submit pictures on WLM 2014, throughout the month of this September. Among those, nine thousand pictures has published. The best picture has selected by the juries.
The Wikimedia Foundation is a nonprofit organization which is operated by Wikipedia. According to the Guinness Book of World Records Authority, WLM contest is the world's largest photography competition.
