After 19 long years of marriage and being husband and wife, the comedian-cum-actor Chris Rock and his wife named Maalak Compton-Rock are going through a divorce.
This news was confirmed by Chris Rock's attorney, Robert S. Cohen and according to "People.com", Cohen had released a statement saying, "Chris Rock has filed for divorce from his wife, Malaak. This is a personal matter and Chris requests privacy as he and Malaak work through this process and focus on their family."
The attorney also said that the couple has been separated at least six months. He also added that the couple had a premarital agreement put in place back when they got married in November, 1996. However, it has since expired because of a sunset provision. The comedian has requested equal distribution of property, minus property that is exempt. In addition, the lawyer added in a statement on the divorce that Compton-Rock "has the ability to work and contribute to her own support, as well as the support and other financial needs of the children."
The couple had been together for almost two decades. Christ Rock had married Malaak, who is a philanthropist and the founder of the non-profit styleWorks, back in 23 November 1996. The couple has two daughters together: 12-year-old Lola Simone Rock as well as 10-year-old Zahra Savannah Rock.
As far as the public knows, the duo's marriage has gone through its fair share of ups-and-downs. Rock previously with Rock got much media attention with his extramarital affair and when a former actress named Kali Bowyer had filed a paternity suit against him back in 2007 and claimed Rock fathered her son.
The 49-year-old comedian is also an actor, screenwriter, producer, and director. He started in standup comic before appearing in small roles in films before getting recognition as a cast member of "Saturday Night Live" in the early 1990s.
