‘No Good Deed’ Actor Idris Elba Addresses Rumors of Him Being Next James Bond: 'Isn’t 007 Supposed To Be Handsome?'

| By

Looks like Idris Elba was "shaken, not stirred" when it was suggested that he suit up and play the role of James Bond.

"Isn't 007 supposed to [be] handsome? Glad you think I've got a shot! Happy New year people," captioned the selfie the 42-year-old actor posted on Twitter on December 27th.

The Daily Beast reported that the co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amy Pascal, e-mailed Columbia Pictures' former executive vice president of production, Elizabeth Cantillon, saying that, "Idris should be the next bond." Columbia Pictures is responsible for the distribution of the 007 franchise.

During a session of Q&A with fans on Reddit this past September, Idris said that he'd happily accept the said role.

"Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely," the English actor replied.

On December 23rd, Radio host Rush Limbaugh raised his eyebrows when he added his own controversial spin regarding the rumor on his self-titled radio show.

"James Bond is a fictional character, obviously. James Bond was invented, created by Ian Fleming, a former spy, MI6, and James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish, period," Rush said bluntly. "That is who James Bond is. But now Sony is suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton rather than a white from Scotland. But that's not who James Bond is, and I know it's racist to probably even point this out."

Actually, the only Scottish actor to have played the role of James Bond was Sean Connery. The other actors came from Ireland, Wales, England and Australia.

This was not the only thing that the recent Sony hack caused. Another result of the said hack was the leaked script of the upcoming James Bond film entitled, "Spectre", wherein the lead role will be played by the English actor Daniel Craig. Regardless of the leak, it is reported that the James Bond movie is currently under production and is expected to be released on November 6, 2015.
