Samsung was denying the reports on closing the service of its ChatOn so far. Those reports were indicating that Samsung might close the service region-by-region basis. Samsung told the South Korean media hub Yonhap News that their messaging application ChatOn will be close, give the impression that the rumors were true!
Under changes in the services operation policy, ChatOn will be closed as of 9 a.m. on Feb. 1, 2015," the South Korean tech firm said. "The move came in line with efforts to meet the changing demands in the market and provide differentiated services to users, focusing on other areas such as health and mobile commerce," it said.
A recent research displays of results that users spent their 6 seconds on monthly basis on ChatOn, as compare to 11 hours on Facebook and 1 hour on Instagram. It may be as a result of popularity of competitor messaging apps like WeChat, Line, and WhatsApp globally which leads mobile messaging activity in various markets.
Samsung declare that it will permit users to store their chat records, photos and videos shared through an app before it shut down ChatOn messaging service.
Samsung Chat On messaging app has 100 million plus users since its 2011 release, it lacks to catch on around the globe. As a result, the company shut down its service on February 1, 2015.
Engadget Reported that they contacted with Samsung and were told that on February 1st, ChatOn will shut down in all markets except for the US. In the US, it will shut down at some point in Q1, but a date has not yet been announced.
Samsung informed in 2013 that 10 million people use their ChatOn service. ChatOn has been used mostly on India and China. ChatOn was announced back in 2011 on multimedia platforms like smartphones, tabs and PCs. ChatOn supports 62 languages on more than 120 countries.
