Jason Momoa is in good hands over at DC and Warner Bros., being cast as the king of the waters Aquaman and signing a four-picture contract with the company as the King of Atlantis. It was exactly two months ago that the actor answered the casting call requiring a "tatooed hawaiian" to take on the role as Aquaman. News about Aquaman has been non-stop since his announced participation in a DC film. Rumors also broke out that Aquaman has already been introduced in 2013's Man of Steel, where the hero of the waters saves Superman when he fell into the ocean:
"I think it's been widely speculated - is that Aquaman saved Superman's life when he fell into the ocean... I heard that those whales that we apparently see in Man of Steel... saved him." (quote taken from Screen Rant)
The Game of Thrones actor revealed at the Comic-Con Experience in Sau Paulo, Brazil that he was forced not to disclose any of his involvements with the movie by it's director Zack Snyder. He did however, expressed that he was excited to be a part of Batman Vs Superman, and that fans are in for a treat with the director's plans with Aquaman calling it "genius".
If we were to speculate, Snyder would build the aquatic hero's story in installments in Justice League Parts 1 & 2, a possible appearance in Dawn of Justice, and finally his own solo film officially announced arriving on July 27, 2018. But all these speculations should be taken with a grain of salt, for now.
Momoa has made himself clear that he wishes Snyder to direct the Aquaman film despite the recent Sony hacking that reveals director Jef Nichols as the chosen one to helm the project in 2018. No confirmation as of yet from DC & Warner Bros. if Nichols will be taking over. Fans and moviegoers will just have to wait for Aquaman to arrive at the box office to see how his story will pan out.
Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to arrive in theaters on May 6, 2016 while Aquaman is scheduled for a July 27, 2018 release date.
