Spreading the holiday cheer his own way, Neil Patrick Harris gave his fans a special Christmas treat by releasing his first promotional video for the Oscars on Christmas Day.
The 41-year-old Emmy-winning actor starred in the short video promoting the upcoming 87th Annual Academy Awards. The 15-second clip shows a makeshift Oscar statue Christmas tree surrounded by several piles of gift wrapped presents with Harris standing in front of it.
Harris is shown sporting a tuxedo with a bowtie, a red scarf, and brunette locks from his "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" days. The star begins by saying, "This holiday season, give your family a gift they'll never forget."
"Instead of traditional presents, give them the gift of simply telling them to watch me host the Oscars," the actor jokes, shrugging as he grins.
It is the "How I Met Your Mother" star's first time hosting the star-studded event that will be held at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre on Feb. 22 of next year. The past hosts of the event were Ellen DeGeneres for 2014, controversial 2013 host Seth MacFarlane, star Billy Crystal for 2012, and the memorable pair who hosted the 2011 Oscars, James Franco and Anne Hathaway.
"I've been in the hosting world for a little while and the Oscars has been that show that I was terrified to take on, but had never been asked to do," Harris revealed in an interview with radio station Z100 two months ago. "Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, the producers of the show, they just reach out to someone. Thankfully, I think with the help of Gone Girl and A Million Ways to Die in the West, I had a couple more feature film credits than I did before and that definitely helps with the Academy and their decision making."
"It's weirdly one of those things that you don't know when it's happening and you don't reach out for it and present yourself," Harris further added. "You just sometimes get a call."
The actor has previously hosted the Emmy and Tony awards.
