Russell Brand and Katy Perry: The Real Reason They Divorced in Brand’s Own Words

| By

British comedian Russell Brand revealed Wednesday that the real reason Katy Perry and him divorced is because of distance and their busy schedules, adding it had nothing to do with Perry not wanting to have children as previous rumors have stated.

The couple tied the knot in India in October 2010, and the relationship was persistently plagued by split rumors until Perry filed papers to end their union last December.

Their divorce was officially finalized on Monday, and the newly single comedian offered new insight into their marital troubles during an interview with Howard Stern. Russell commented that they enjoyed a good 14 months together of wedded bliss.

Russell said he did want to have children but that was not the reason they divorced. "She's young, successful and dedicated. You can't fully understand it until you do it. I was really into the idea of marriage and having children."

"She's a good person, I've got nothing but love for her. I loved her so much, it just seemed like the sensible thing to do. I just loved her so much. This isn't really working out, it's a difficult situation...I was really, really in love with her, but it was difficult to see each other...We were together when it was right to be together, and when it wasn't we worked it out. It was a lovely relationship...it mostly didn't work for practical reasons...We did work it out, she's happy, I'm happy."

He added, "I don't want anything to hurt her. She's younger than me, she's a young woman and she's beautiful and she's sensitive and I care about her deeply.....I don't want to be too glib."

During the interview, Brand also confirmed he's dating Isabella Brewster, who is actress Jordana Brewster's younger sister.

Meanwhile, Katy Perry is planning her own real-life version of "Eat Pray Love," in South America. Perry is going to embark on a "three-month 'healing' holiday," according to Web site Monsters and Critics. Perry has been rumored to be dating Florence + The Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd, but the report said it's "not serious." The "Part of Me" singer says she wants time off from her schedule to deal with the breakup.
