Las Vegas has always been the center of sports and entertainment. This is why it is expected to be the shoo-in venue for the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao fight if ever it happens. However, with this offer from a UAE group, it seems seeing the mega bout between this generation's most decorates boxers might not happen in the Sin City.
The Boxingscene.com reported that an investment group in Abu Dhabi is pitching on the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao fight by offering $120 million to Pretty Boy. In exchange, the match will be held in their city.
"The media has been speculating the offer has gone up $10 million to a guaranteed $120 million, and they're right," said M. Akbar Muhammad, pesident and chief operating officer of Akbar Productions, LLC of New Jersey.
Although discussions regarding the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao is yet to progress in a more comforting level, Muhammad said they have already made an offer to Mayweather Promotions.
"Mr. Mayweather has said he'll fight Pacquiao in the spring, so the only matter that needs to be resolved is the money," he said. "I defy any other offer to come anywhere close to what Mr. Mayweather and the 'Money Team' will net by fighting in Abu Dhabi."
Muhammad also boasted that what they offer is the best the Floyd Mayweather can get, not just in agreeing to fight Pacquiao but in his whole career.
"The $120 million is the largest payday for an individual for a single event in the history of sports. This dwarfs by far any amount an individual in the richest sports -- baseball, football, basketball, soccer, cricket, tennis golf and Formula 1 racing -- has ever received," he said.
So far, there is no done deal yet between the two parties. Floyd Mayweather Jr once said in an interview with Showtime that he wants to make the fight happen and he wants it to take place on May 2 next year. Meanwhile, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum keeps on saying that the only thing they need is a phone call from Mayweather.
