GTA 5: GTA 5 Beats November Sales Estimates On All Gaming Platforms

| By

When news broke that the days of GTA 5 for PS3 and Xbox 360 were effectively numbered, the sound of a billion breaking hearts could be heard around the world.

Rockstar recently confirmed that it would keep lavishing the past-gen console versions with new content and updates for "as long as possible" which indirectly confirmed that the end was nigh...or at least would be soon.

Now, this didn't bode well with a fair few folks on both sides of the fence as with a massive 34 million copies of past-gen GTA 5 already doing the rounds, some had reached the conclusion that the Xbox One and PS4 versions wouldn't sell all-that well.

And what's more, the announcement might lead to past-gen sales drying up completely.

If the game's sales stats for November are anything to go by however, all versions of the world's most successful entertainment product of all time are performing above and beyond analyst expectations.

As far as Michael Pacter of Wedbush analysts is concerned for one, the industry may have grossly underestimated how much love their still is for Rockstar's most recent masterpiece.

"NPD data for the month of November confirmed that next-gen Grand Theft Auto V sales vastly exceeded our prior expectations. GTA V on next-gen consoles sold 1.47 million units including pack-ins in the PS4 Black Friday bundle," he wrote.

"We estimate that there were an additional 368,000 digital unit sales of the title, for a total of 1.84 million units. This suggests worldwide sell-through approaching 3.7 million units in November alone, meaning our prior sell-in estimate of 3.75 million units for Q3:15 was way too conservative."

Of course, the general consensus is one that points to wavering past-gen sales as 2015 gets into full swing, though over the Holiday season and the New Year sales we're likely to see massive numbers added to the tally totted up so far.

Sadly though, the notion of support for post-gen version being pulled eventually does if nothing else breed one conclusion - Grand Theft Auto 7 won't be going anywhere near the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3.
