Design and Screen

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active has an IP67 waterproofing and a MIL-spec 810G rating. The phone has been tested against shock, dust, vibration, extreme temperatures, high altitude, and humidity. The Korean tech giant claims that the S5 Active can survive drops up to 4 feet on a flat surface. It has the dimensions of 5.72 x 2.89 x 0.35 inches, and weighs 6 ounces boasting a 5.2inch screen.

In comparison, the Moto X has a minimalist design that looks like a small version of the Nexus 6. It's back cover can be customized in different hues available on Moto Maker website. The device is not an IP67 certified, but its aluminum shell can still outlast several drops. It measures 5.54 x 2.85 x 0.39 inches and weighs 5.08 ounces. It also sports a 0.1inch larger screen than the S5 Active.

Both phones boast Gorilla Corning Glass 3 screen protection and have the same resolution of 1080 x 1920.

Hardware and OS

Both phones are powered by a Snapdragon 801 CPU and an Adreno 330 GPU. It is supported by a 2 GB of RAM, and an internal storage of 16GB or 32GB, and does not support a microSD expansion on the Moto X. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active's external memory can be expanded up to 128GB.

The S5 Active currently runs on the Android 4.4.2, while the Moto X runs on the Android 4.4.4 and has been updated to Android Lollipop on a few carriers.

Camera

Like the original S5, the S5 Active sports a 16MP Camera with ISOCELL technology, and one of the few devices that gives you the option of 4k video recording.

The Moto X camera is a bit inferior, measuring 13 MP on the rear with a ring dual LED flash and 2 MP on the front.

Battery and Price

The Moto X has a 2300 mAh battery capacity. According to a battery test from Business News Daily. It can last up to 7 hours and 30 minutes, which involves continuous Web browsing via Verizon's 4G network.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active can last up to 11 Hours of internet usage using 3G network and up to 12 hours on 4G network.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active costs $659, while the Motorola Moto X 2014 costs $499 off contract.
