Hacked Sony Pictures Email Rumored To Drop Andrew Garfield As Peter Parker; Will they Get Tobey Maguire Back As Spiderman?

| By

One biggest news of the Sony Pictures hacking reveals the direction of the Spiderman series. Jeff Robinov, head of Studio 8, who has reportedly locked a deal with Sony, disclosed details of an upcoming reboot of the movie's franchise in an email addressed to Sony Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal.

The discussion revealed talks about a re-envisioning of the web-slinging hero as an adult; with the email titled "Rebooting Spider-Man". The text from the document continues, "To argue that there's plenty of other superhero movies with levity in the marketplace, so why make more Spider-Man movies, would be akin to saying there's no room for James Bond films because of all the espionage films and franchises that have come out over the years. There will always be room for this beloved, iconic hero."

The storyline suggests a slightly different direction (quote taken from thedailypedia.com)

"I might suggest looking at what is widely thought to be the most beloved Spider-Man storyline of all time - "Kraven's Last Hunt" - which ran across Amazing Spider-Man #293-294, Spectacular Spider-Man #131-132, and Web of Spider-Man #31-32. (In fact, Comic Book Resources polled their readers in 2012, and this storyline was voted as the single greatest Spider-Man storyline of all time.)

In it, Kraven the Hunter tracks down Spider-Man, shoots him repeatedly, and leaves him for dead, buried underground. He then dons a Spider-Man costume and savagely starts attacking criminals."

Could this be the last of Andrew Garfield we see as Spidey? The Amazing Spiderman 3 is currently scheduled for a 2018 release date but Marvel has expressed their intentions to create a "fresh start" wherever the web-head is concerned. This is crucial as Marvel has been working on a deal with Sony for quite some time, possibly for Spiderman to cross over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. An Avengers movie perhaps?

Sony Pictures sure needs to do well in continuing their beloved franchise, with The amazing Spiderman 2 failing to deliver at the box offices. Meanwhile, the company known for contributing to the influx of superhero movies for the past years will be releasing two villain-centered movies, Sinister Six and Venom.
