You are probably wondering why there is no news talking about Mason Verger for the upcoming new season of Hannibal. If you can recall from the NBC TV series' sophomore run, Verger (played by Michael Pitt) was drove by Dr. Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) to madness and made him eat his own face. Earlier Hannibal Season 3 spoilers revealed that Verger's assistant will return. This is why you can't blame fans to assume that they will see Mason again.
Good news and bad news (sort of) for Fannibals waiting for Mason Verger confirmation. The sadistic doctor will return. However, he will no longer be played by Michael Pitt. According to a Hannibal Season 3 spoiler from TV Line, Michael Pitt has decided not to return anymore. He will be replaced by Joe Anderson.
TV Line wrote:
"Michael Pitt will no longer be hearing the screaming squealing of the lambs pigs when Hannibal returns for Season 3.
The actor, who played sociopathic meat-packing magnate Mason Verger in Season 2, is not returning to the series and will be replaced by Joe Anderson (The Divide, The River), TVLine has learned exclusively.
The decision not to return was Pitt's, according to sources."
Back in October of this year, TV Line also shared a Hannibal Season 3 spoiler revealing that Verger's personal doctor Cordell is up for a recurring appearance in the NBC show. The entertainment website's Michael Ausiello wrote:
"You didn't say "pretty please" or add sugar on top, but I'll nevertheless indulge your request by letting you know that we probably haven't seen the last of the grossly disfigured Mason Verger. Producers are currently casting the recurring role of Cordell, the "quiet, very intelligent and definitely creepy" personal doctor to Michael Pitt's sociopathic meat-packing magnate. The late-thirty something character is described as "attentive and gentle with Mason, a professional who cares about his work, but we get a sense he might be as sadistic as his boss - and a perfect fit to become his potential henchman."
Hannibal Season 3 release date is yet to be confirmed.
