Oscar nominee Viola Davis of TV show "How To Get Away With Murder" and "Ender's Game" has been reported taking the role of Amanda Waller in Warner Bros. & DC's upcoming "Suicide Squad" movie. Amanda Waller in the comics is a prison warden and a former congressional aide. She is responsible for bringing together the members of the Suicide Squad, a task force group of supervillains working for the government to go on secret missions, in return to shorten their sentences.
Waller's character in the comics is originally a large, older woman up until a new version of her came up in 2012's New 52 reboot, where she was introduced as a much younger and more attractive woman. This change didn't fly too well with fans as this made her look like any attractive woman, taking away what made her unique as a female character in comics.
While non of the news have been confirmed official by Warner Bros., rumors say that Davis is very close to signing a contract as soon as she sorts her busy schedule with How To Get Away With Murder, where she is currently playing the lead role.
Oprah Winfrey and Octavia Spencer were the names mentioned earlier as contenders in playing the role.
Suicide Squad will be directed by David Ayer, the rest of the cast include powerhouse hollywood stars such as Will Smith playing Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Jared Leto as The Joker. Wolf of Wall Street's Margot Robbie will take on the role of Harley Quinn and will introduce Victoria Secret model Cara Delevingne playing the Enchantress.
Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment has given the Suicide Squad film a 2016 release date.
