The Internet exploded this week as Neil Gaiman shared in an interview the details of the upcoming "Sandman", bringing in the names of Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch. Joseph Gordon-Levitt also unleashes updates on the highly anticipated movie adaptation.
Neil Gaiman talked to Radio Times early this week, sharing his thoughts on the development of the upcoming movie adaptation of his beloved "Sandman" graphic novel. In the interview, the author talks about how he sees the lead in the "Sandman" movie, Morpheus as portrayed in the film. He shares his thought process about the casting, where he mentions how a certain actor might be fit to portray Morpheus at one time, and then not at all fitting the following day.
He said: "There was a time Johnny Depp would've been a great Morpheus, but now he's too old and it's fine. I think the first time I saw Benedict was as Sherlock Holmes, I thought, "Wow, that's incredibly Morpheus. Then again, Tom Hiddleston is still out there!"
Fans immediately took to believe that while Benedict Cumberbatch has already signed on in the "Dr. Strange" project, Tom Hiddleston will be Morpheus in the upcoming "Sandman" movie according to Neil Gaiman himself.
Following the buzz online that Neil Gaiman is then eyeing Tom Hiddleston to portray Morpheus, the author tweeted to clarify the entire misunderstanding. As a fan asked Neil Gaiman, he replied directly, addressing the whole Tom Hiddleston-Morpheus conundrum.
In other news, while actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who is known to be working with Neil Gaiman and David S. Goyer in the development of the movie "Sandman" has already signed-on as producer of the adaptation, does this mean that definitely he is among the many choices to portray lead Endless, Morpheus?
The tweet by Joseph Gordon-Levitt shows that while he does confirm producing the the "Sandman" movie, he says that "the rest remains to be seen"-possibly implying that he still could play lead Endless, Morpheus.
While Joseph Gordon-Levitt's tweet may be outdated as it was posted last year, this clarifies at least one thing: casting for Morpheus and the search for the perfect actor to portray the lead character in the "Sandman" movie continues. It could be Tom Hiddleston yesterday, and not today, but it could be him again tomorrow.
