The Interview movie is at the center of the ongoing Sony cyber attack. The comedy film is about two journalists (Seth Rogen and James Franco) who were ordered to kill the leader of North Korea after they were granted a chance to interview him.
On June of this year, Kim Myong-chol, executive director of the Center for Korean-American Peace and an unofficial spokesman for the North Korean government condemned the film for its portrayal of the their leader. Suspects behind the Sony Pictures hacking, who call themselves Guaridans of Peace, threatened US Cinemas of a 9/11-like attack if they will show The Interview. In response, local theaters decided to cancel the screening, prompting Sony to officially stop the release of the film.
Many were surprised with what's going on and how the Sony hack attack has affected the entertainment industry. For actor Randall Park who played North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in 'The Interview', he expected that kind of response from the Asian country.
"I was kind of expecting it," Park said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. "Making threats "is kind of their M.O. It's what they do."
Park also revealed that Rogen and director Evan Goldberg have already anticipated the Sony hacking and North Korea has already seen The Interview because "they are so good at hacking and getting into things."
"I know that North Korea, although they seem crazy, they're smart and there's no way they would make policy based on a comedy movie," he said.
Randall Park said he was thrilled to have landed the role as Kim Jong-Un and he wants to use it to make people know what is happening in North Korea.
"I thought it was insane but a great idea," he said. "It's the type of thing that, if one thing is off about the movie, it just won't work. But that's how Seth and Evan approach things in general. They take big risks. When I got the part, I remember thinking, 'This will be a great way to let people learn what's going on over there because I don't think enough people know.'"
