Previous reports saying Mark Hamill will appear in one The Flash series episode does not only mark the arrival of a new villain. Hamill joining the superhero series also marks the participation of the third actor from first The Flash live action series that aired in 1990. Before the Star Wars actor landed a role in the new CW Network series, his former colleague John Wesley Shipp, who played Barry Alllen 20 years ago, has already appeared in several episodes as the father of Grant Gustin's The Flash. Amanda Pays, who guest starred in the Man in the Yellow Suit episode, also played as Tina McGee today, same role she portrayed in the 1990s version.
According to earlier The Flash series episode spoilers, Hamill's role will be the same as what he played in the 1990 counterpart. Hitflix reported that he will "reprise his role as James Jesse, aka Flash villain the Trickster."
"Mark Hamill returns in a brand new interpretation of James Jesse (aka The Trickster), a role he originated on the 90's 'Flash' series. In this new iteration, The Trickster is an anarchist terrorist con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and Det. West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original's deadly footsteps. The episode will reunite him with John Wesley Shipp who went up against him as the original 'Flash' on the CBS version."
Although Hamill will return in remaining The Flash series episodes for the same role, the actor said that the CW show's approach is different and is totally unexpected.
"When they asked me to be a part of it, the last thing I was thinking was that I would be returning to that specific role, but I think you're going to be really pleased with what they've come up with," Hamill told in an interview with IGN. "It was totally unexpected."
