Action-adventure video game Whore of the Orient follows through after coming under fire from detractors, and continues development. Release date has been tentatively set, with gameplay and other details revealed from developer Team Bondi.
Controversy plagued the development of Whore of the Orient as a councilor from the city of Monash objects to the title of the video game, stating that Whore of the Orient is an "attempt to disgrace Chinese culture, history and traditions," according to The Age.
According to the report, the complaint was versed: "It's the use of the word 'Orient', more even that the word 'whore', that is the issue. The O-word is very similar to the N-word for African-American communities. It's a 19th century racial-colonial conception and it's especially painful for older people in the communities. That was a very bad time in China, and people don't want or need to have that dragged up."
Apart from this controversy, Team Bondi has pursued development, even setting a tentative release date on 2015. However, no updates on this matter have surfaced. To date, Whore of the Orient release date remains on a very vague 2015. No closedown news have also surfaced, as development seems to be slowly progressing, regardless of the little details unveiled of the project.
Whore of the Orient is set in "Shanghai, 1936. Whore of the Orient. Paris of the East. The most corrupt and decadent city on the planet, where anything can be had or done for the right price. Plaything of Western powers who greedily exploit the Chinese masses. Boiling pot of Chinese nationalism, with the Kuomintang ruthlessly trying to suppress Communism and the labour movement. Home to the International Police Force, a group of Western cops hopelessly trying to keep the lid on and keep the peace," reads Team Bondi's description of the upcoming video game.
Much like Team Bondi's LA Noire, Whore of the Orient will contain that almost the same "narrative action adventure title" that is "similar in style to LA Noire," reports the Official PlayStation Magazine.
