Underworld 5 Movie News Update: Kate Beckinsale Is Back But Story Will Focus On Theo James!

| By

Up to now, Underworld fans has been waiting for the next installment. And just recently, it was confirmed that there will be a new Underworld franchise-Underworld: Next Generation.

This news hasn't been that good because lead star Kate Beckinsale (Selene), is rumored to not be returning in the 5th franchise (if the sequel and prequel are not counted).

But, recently, director Len Wiseman recently revealed to IGN:

"Another film is being developed with Kate (Beckinsale), possibly as well."

Likewise, in an interview with Beckinsale, 2 years ago she says:

"I'm the worst person to ask about this. I always said there wasn't going to be a fourth one. So you can't trust what I say at all. I don't know. Part of me thinks that's so peculiar to me. I don't have a background in TV playing the same character for two years in a row. So playing the same character over and over again does seem a bit odd. But I am very fond of the character, and other people are pretty fond of her, too. So who knows? There's part of me that thinks maybe it's good to blaze a trail, to be the menopausal action heroine. Give me Underworld 12 and my little beard hairs. Me and Bruce Willis can go toe to toe."

When asked about the possibility of another Underworld film.

However, this vampire-lycan (werewolf) movie's next installment is reported to focus on Theo James (Divergent), who will reprise his role as the vampire David. In Underworld: Awakening, David became Selene's vampire ally as she united with her daughter and sought out the hybrid Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman).

James' David will be the lead in the upcoming installment, which will not be a reboot but rather Underworld 5 which will expand upon the vampire's story. He will be joined by two other new female characters who will co-star. Casting is underway for James' costars and filming is expected to begin in the spring.

Developer Lakeshore Entertainment hires Cory Goodman to write the script, as The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported. While, Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing.
