The trade market has opened and one of those that easily made the biggest headlines is Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo. The eighth year man has been with the Celtics for more than seven years now. He won with them an NBA championship in 2008 but then his career took a slow turn when Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen were traded or signed with other clubs during free agency. It also didn't help that he was often injured.
Still, playoff teams believe in Rondo's talent and one of those who immediately jumped on the Rajon Rondo trade battle is Dallas Mavericks. According to a report by ESPN's Marc Stein "the Celtics and Mavericks have been discussing a swap that would furnish Boston with multiple draft picks -- including at least one first-rounder -- as well as blossoming Mavericks center Brandan Wright and other players needed to make the salary-cap math work."
He also said that Mavs seems to have the upper hand in the Rajon Rondo trade quest.
However, another top market team has the chance of snatching the 28-year old point guard from the Dallas Mavericks. CBS Sports' Ken Berger reported that the Los Angeles Lakers are also out to try their luck in Rajon Rondo trade battle by shipping Steve Nash as well as a top-five protected pick in 2015.
"Other teams, including the Lakers and Knicks, have been on the periphery of talks. But Ainge is unlikely to deal Rondo within the conference, much less within the division. As for the Lakers, who can offer a top-five protected pick in 2015 and Steve Nash's $9.7 million expiring contract (paid mostly by insurance), they are viewed as more of an option for Rondo in free agency next summer if he is not traded by the Feb. 19 deadline."
As you can remember earlier this month, rumors of Rajon Rondo trade to Lakers surfaced after the two were spotted having breakfast before their teams' match-up. However, according to the Black Mamba, their breakfast is just two basketball nerds spending some time with each other.
Where do you think the Celtics should trade Rajon Rondo?
Update:
Rondo has already said his goodbyes to Celtics fans and the organization saying he wish them the best. He also said that he is excited to play with young players from Dallas.
