Director James Wan is returning to the big chair for a sequel after 2013's agruably scariest film grossed over $300 million at the box offices, six times more than its initial budget ($20 Million), and also despite it's R rating. Wan, who had just finished directing "Fast and Furious 7" was also offered another successful brand in the horror genre with a tiny budget, the third installment for Insidious, "Insidious: Chapter 3". Wan Passed up the offer, instead giving the directors chair to his partner, Leigh Whannell.
Reports that New Line Cinema already has a plot in development for the sequel, this time with husband and wife team Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) picking up from the first installment about a case in Long Island. Ain't It Cool News has reported that they have been tipped about the plot of the sequel:
"The case file they're looking at occures in the late '70s and centers on two sisters in Enfield, England, who were allegedly possessed. Warren said she personally saw them levitate and even saw one of the sister dematerialize in front of her only to be found 20 minutes later stuffed into an oversized fuse box, contorted in such an unnatural way that they couldn't have replicated it if they tried. She also said that the demon spoke directly to her husband on many occasions. Warren cited this case as one of the most terrifying experiences of her career."
News from Movie Pilot is that the sequel will be titled "The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist", which is based on real life accounts of a family in London, England. The Warren's return to the big screen to investigate Single Mother Margaret Hodgson and her four children who are experiencing severe Poltergeist hauntings.
James Wan returns to direct "The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist" with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga set to reprise their roles as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Penning the script are Chad and Carey Hays, who are also writers of the frist installment.
The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist expected to come out in theaters in June 2016.
