Jamie Dornan had an "interesting evening" at a sex venue as research for his role in the upcoming movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.
The 32-year-old actor plays sexual deviant Christian Grey and in order to research his character's affection for BDSM, he attended a club that specialized in precisely that.
"It was an interesting evening," he told the UK edition of Elle magazine about his trip to what they described as a "sex dungeon".
"I went there, they offered me a beer, and they did... whatever they were into," Jamie explained. "I saw a dominant with one of his two submissives. I was like, 'Come on guys I know I'm not paying for this but I am expecting a show.'"
The character he immersed himself in for the highly anticipated movie leads a sneaky and comparatively controversial life.
Jamie admitted it felt strange leaving this world behind to return to his family after his field trip. He and his wife Amelia Warner have a baby girl together.
"Then going back to my wife and newborn baby afterwards... I had a long shower before touching either of them," he told the publication.
The movie also will feature plenty of sex scenes between Jamie and his co-star Dakota Johnson, who plays the central character of Anastasia Steele. But he's eager to make it clear what goes on between them on set is purely professional.
"Anyone who thinks actors get turned on doing sex scenes in films is mistaken. There are dozens of hairy men standing around, moving cables and lighting equipment," Jamie confirmed. "That's not sexy unless you're into being watched, which I'm not."
The movie, set for release on February 13 next year, will bring to life the erotic story penned by E.L. James in her best selling novel.
