The highly anticipated Manny Pacquiao Floyd Mayweather fight is a step closer to reality. After days (err, years) of being mum about the much requested bout, the American fighter finally speaks. Talks of this battle have been revived over the past weeks after Pacquiao won against Chris Algieri in Macau last November 24. Discussions got more intense as the two exchanged taunts on social media. Now, Floyd Jr finally said what boxing fans want to hear from him. He even picked a specific date for it.
"We are ready. Let's make it happen. May 2. Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao. Let's do it," Mayweather said in an interview with Showtime while promoting a boxing card in San Antonio.
The Manny Pacquiao Floyd Mayweather fight has long been requested by boxing fans. However, talks always collapse as both sides accuse each other of dodging. For Maweather, it is the Filipino fighter who always ducks.
"I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao. We tried to make the fight happen years ago; we had problems with random blood and urine testing," Mayweather added.
"I just want to be on an even playing field. Now he's in a very, very tight situation. He's lost to [Juan Manuel] Marquez [in 2012], he's lost to [Timothy] Bradley [by controversial decision in 2012 but avenged it in April]. Pay-per-view numbers are extremely low."
"He's desperate. I wanted that fight a long time ago. I'm just waiting on them.
"Floyd Mayweather is not ducking or dodging any opponent. Now it's time for us to talk.."
One thing that the Money blames why Manny Pacquiao Floyd Mayweather fight always gets stalled is because he believes his Filipino counterpart, an eight-division world champion, will only use him to earn more.
"We're tired of you guys fooling the public, fooling the critics. You guys didn't want to take random blood and urine testing, so that's why it didn't happen. Then I offered you $40 million (£25m), then you didn't want to make the fight happen.
"You lost twice, now you coming back begging for the same money. That's not gonna happen. Let's make the fight happen for the people and the fans. Mayweather versus Pacquiao, May 2nd, Cinco de Mayweather."
But of course, a lot of things can still happen before May 2. One would only believe that the Manny Pacquiao Floyd Mayweather fight is happening once the two start exchanging punches on the boxing ring.
