Tom Cruise, via his lawyers, sent the National Inquirer a letter recently stating that they would sue the publication for libelous comments about how the actor abused former wife Katie Holmes and their daughter Suri, reported the Hollywood Reporter.

The recent issue of the National Inquirer stated that Cruise's home in California was labeled a "house of horrors" right on the front cover, and Cruise's lawyer, in a letter obtained by the Hollywood Reporter, called the accusations "disgraceful and lurid," that could cause the actor millions of dollars in personal damage. The publication also said that Cruise, as a tyrant, kept their small daughter locked away for five months in a "tiny, windowless room."

"Your cover announces, as a fact, that 'THE REAL TOM CRUISE IS A MONSTER.' Mr. Cruise is certainly not a 'monster.' He is a caring father, a hardworking actor and, above all, an honest, decent man," Bertram Fields, Cruise's lawyer, said in the letter to America Media, who own the National Inquirer.

Another one of Cruise's lawyers, Aaron Moss, noted that the issue contained "the most defamatory cover the Enquirer has ever done," when he wrote an email to America Media senior media counsel Cameron Stracher in an email, which the Hollywood Reporter obtained. Moss was firm that the publication not release the issue.

"You need to stop this from coming out tomorrow," Moss pressed on in the email.

"Mr. Cruise's home in Telluride, like his home in Beverly Hills, is a pleasant and loving home," Fields' letter read. "Suri was not forced to stay for five months in a tiny windowless room. She spent most of her time with Tom and Katie. She slept in a nursery adjoining their bedroom. It has a window."

Fields ended the letter threatening to sue the publication if they did not retract all of the lies and fallacies written in their issue, and to call to the court's attention of the National Inquirer's long history of printing and publishing lies about celebrities to make profit.

America Media has yet to comment, as well as the National Inquirer regarding the letter, accusations, and lawsuit threats.
