After so many years in development, finally there are updates on the development of the graphic novel "Sandman".
Producer David S. Goyer and Hollywood actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt talk about the progress of development, and the involvement of the author Neil Gaiman as central to the completion of the project.
While plans to make a film adaptation of the DC graphic novel "Sandman" began during the late 1990s, progress towards actually begin filming weren't as clear as it has been to date. Numerous directors and screenwriters have taken on the feat of penning down a script but most if not all led to the dismay of author Neil Gaiman.
Science Fiction World reports that at one time, Neil Gaiman has been utterly disappointed after reading a draft script for the film adaptation of his beloved "Sandman" saying "not only the worst 'Sandman' script I've ever seen, but quite easily the worst script I've ever read."
It is not until recently that developments in the "Sandman" film adaptation have taken a positive stride towards completion, however no release date yet has been arranged. To date, screenwriter David S. Goyer has been developing the adaptation hoping to push for solid release date, together with Hollywood actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt who is said to take on the role of main character among the Endless, Morpheus/Sandman.
"Sandman" is a story about the Endless siblings and their rule of the world, as well as the challenge to keep the world at balance-leveling good and evil in their palms. It is based on the original story by Neil Gaiman released during the last 1980s to mid-1990s, published as a graphic novel by Vertigo.
Recent updates on the development of "Sandman" were shared by David S. Goyer himself. Speaking to Deadline he says, "We have a draft Warners is very happy with and we're moving forwards, knock on wood."
During a Reddit AMA, Joseph Gordon-Levitt also talks "Sandman" development and shares, "Been doing a lot of work and David Goyer and Jack Thorne, working on the screenplay. We've been doing our meetings at the DC office, which is a frickin rad place to work. Also just had a great conversation last week with David and Mr. Gaiman. Neil has been extremely big hearted with me, and he's the one I want to please the most."
