The sci-fi action comedy-drama film by Neill Blokamp debuts on the big screen next year, lead by "X-Men: Apocalypse" star Hugh Jackman. "Chappie" release date, cast news and other updates have also been unleashed online.
Following the success of sci-fi action-drama film "District 9", co-writer and director Neill Blokamp takes another stab at making an AI-led movie coming next year. Development of this feature film began in 2013 and was completed early this year. With enough time for post-production developments, "Chappie" seems to be right on track to meet its 2015 deadline. "Chappie" release date is scheduled on March 6, 2015, starring Sharlto Copley who plays the voice of Chappie.
According to Collider, Columbia President Doug Belgrad talks about Blokamp during the press release of "Chappie" early during the development of the film saying, "We're huge fans of Neill Blomkamp - it's a real thrill to be continuing our relationship with such a visionary and important filmmaker. Neill has proven that he is a true original voice and we expect that Chappie will strike a chord with worldwide audiences in the same way that District 9 and Elysium have. We love the script he and Terri have written and we're looking forward to working again with our friends at MRC."
Sharlto Copley is known for his work in the recent Disney film "Maleficent" as King Stefan. He also appeared in "Elysium" (2010), "The A-Team" (2010) and "District 9" (2009). "X-Men: Apocalypse" star Hugh Jackman brings in his star power as Vincent, joined by other Hollywood big names such as Sigourney Weaver, Dev Patel, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Anri du Toit and Watkin Tudor Jones.
This is another robot-centered family movie that Hugh Jackman stars in, as he had worked in the 2011 "Real Steal" movie, which also was about robots. His other movies coming next year includes "Pan" and the year after with "X-Men: Apocalypse" reprising his role as Wolverine.
The adventure of Chappie begins as he is kidnapped in childhood and grows up in a somewhat odd family. IMDB shares the synopsis of "Chappie" as "after being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot."
