Although the release date may still be vaguely announced, developer Cloud Imperium Games has already made a new patch and a drivable spacecraft available for backers' alpha versions. Here's information available so far.

Recent updates on the PC game Star Citizens have been unveiled online, including a new spacecraft made available for backers to test drive. The Hornet Spacecraft in Star Citizen is now unleashed to supporters with Star Citizen sharing in its official site, "for the next week, we're unlocking the Anvil Hornet for all backers to test. The Hornet is the civilian version of the F7A Hornet flown off of the elite Bengal carrier vanguard of the UEE Navy," according to the game's official site.
Other news on Star Citizen prior to the release date also reveals that the latest patch to the alpha version has been unleashed, "that allows players to explore various craft as Cloud Imperium developers get them 'hangar-ready'. AC version 0.9.2.2. adds the Anvil Gladiator to the mix, along with a drunk effect for your hangar's liquor cabinet. CIG encourages you to 'please drink responsibly'", reports Massively Joystiq.
