Following a number of changes in the director's chair, 20th Century Fox was finally able to pin down the rightful director in the film adaptation of novel "The Martian". Sir Ridley Scott who is known for his work in numerous award winning Hollywood films has taken the reigns in the production of the Andy Weir novel adaptation and has since been in control. His most recent works include "Exodus: Gods and Kings" (2014), "Prometheus" (2012), "American Gangster" (2007) and "Kingdom of Heaven" (2005).
While filming began in November, "The Martian" release date has been set a year after, in November 25, 2015 for worldwide debut. As far as news goes, this seems to be a plausible deadline as the production reportedly is on a steady pace, and no reason for delays have yet been encountered.
Cast members of Ridley Scott's "The Martian" includes "The Bourne" star Matt Damon who plays the lead character Mark Watney, Jessica Chastain ("Interstellar" 2014), Jeff Daniels ("Dumb and Dumber To" 2014), Michael Peña ("Fury" 2014), Donald Glover ("Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" 2014), and Sean Bean ("Wicked Blood", 2014).
"The Martian" plot revolves around lead character Mark Watney played by "The Bourne" star Matt Damon, who gets stuck in the planet Mars and tries to survive. Author Andy Weir talks about the character Mark Watney in an interview last month with ArsTechnica and says, "He's like all of my good qualities-and better at them-and none of my bad qualities. He's really brave, I'mo not. I'm a smart-ass, he's a serious smart-ass."
