Facebook's Popularity Decreasing Among Young People?

| By

Facebook's popularity among young people is decreasing. Really? Among the technology analysts, many of them don't agree with the issue of decreasing Facebook's popularity.

Their claims, Facebook popularity is not decreasing but the way of using Facebook has been changed. Facebook itself has been changing. The Telegraph online's technology analyst Rhiannon Williams has analyzed this issue.

It has discussed in Telegraph online report, every few months, a report is published suggesting Facebook is in decline. One of those is Princeton University's researcher's report. The report was published earlier this year declared the social network would lose 80 per cent of its users and die out "like the bubonic plague".

GlobalWebIndex has published a report on social media use across 32 global markets, encompassing some 170,000 internet users in the largest on-going study into the life of the digital consumer.

Another report published in June on YouGov stating that Facebook and rival Twitter's popularity is decreasing, the key reasons are a lack of interest, concerns over privacy and advertising fatigue.

Hearing the news on Facebook's decreasing popularity, does any of the Facebook user stop using this platform? Basically, these reports obviously came as a bad news for Facebook authorities. But the issue can be seen in other ways.

If you consider average age of more active Facebook users, then most of them are adult as about a quarter of their users are over 45 years of age. Generally, older Facebook users post less amount of events. They share and interact less than younger users. That doesn't mean that Facebook is dying a death. In fact, more people are coming on this site than before, around 90 million each month.

The Telegraph's report, the way of using Facebook has changed. Now people are using Facebook indirectly. Now People are using Facebook more as passive observers than active sharers.
