Godzilla 2 Monsters Revealed! Sequel To The King Kaiju's Reboot Coming In 2018; Japan Announces Their Own Remake, Their First In 10 Years

Godzilla 2 might well be on its way in production following Godzilla's success, who has passed $500 million at the worldwide box office.

But fans of the King Daikaiju are worried that the sequel may be delayed from its original plan after director Gareth Edwards announced his new spin off Star Wars that is due out in December 16, 2016.

"Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited and honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm," Edwards said in a statement.

A legendary picture CEO Thomas Tull is however confident that Edwards' new film will not interfere with Godzilla 2.

"Gareth's filmmaking talent makes him one of his generation's most creative and visionary directors. The plan has always been for Gareth to direct a different film before we started on another Godzilla, but who knew it would be a Star Wars installment? We have a great plan in store for Godzilla fans and I am looking forward to seeing Gareth's imprint on the Star Wars universe."

Warner Bros. at San Diego's Comic Con announced that Gozdilla 2 was absolutely happening and will get on the sequel as soon as he finishes his Star Wars spin off.

As of now, Godzilla 2 is targeting a 2018 release date.

Legendary Pictures and Universal also confirmed a King Kong prequel called Skull Island for November 4, 2016. Skull Island is rumored to feature a showdown between King Kong and Godzilla.

Additionally, the second installment has been confirmed recently at Comic Con where a short clip was presented showing three additional monsters to join the sequel. All three have appeared in previous Toho Co., Ltd. Films, largely responsible for Godzilla released in Japan.

Confirmed monsters appearing in the sequel are King Ghidora is a three-headed, armless kaiju dragon who first appeared in a 1964 Godzilla film titled Ghidora: The Three Headed Monster. Rodan, also a flying kaiju has appeared in 1956's Rodan while Mothra, a moth-like kaiju appeared in 1961's Mothra.

With the Edward's movie earning over $500 Million at the box office, Japan isn't letting Hollywood get all of the success from their beloved Kaiju; Toho will be making their own Godzilla movie, their first after their last installment, 2004's Godzilla: Final Wars. The Tokyo based company hasn't made any announcements yet on who will be in charge of their reboot.
