New updates on the Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise divorced showed that the actress had been planning the split very covertly, and in full detail, with the help of her divorce attorney father, Martin, People magazine said on Wednesday.
The publication reported that Holmes was very much unhappy during her five-year marriage to Cruise, and decided one day that she had enough and wanted the relationship to be over. "She no longer had the life she wanted, in terms of her career, her way of life, everything," a source told People.
"Once she decided to go, she was done," says the source.
The steps in getting the divorce from Cruise so that he was completely unaware included moving to a new apartment in downtown Manhattan, 3,000 miles away from Cruise's home in California, with daughter Suri. Holmes event went so far to switching cellular phones so that Cruise and his team couldn't keep tabs on who she was calling.
And in fact, it was via the phone that she told Cruise about the split, People revealed.
"She knew she had to have everything locked down before she pulled the trigger," said the source to People, "because there could be no wiggle room if she didn't want this to turn into a long, drawn-out battle."
In just 11 days after the announcement of the split, a settlement was reached, reported People, on July 9 that would give Holmes primary custody of her only child with Cruise, six-year-old daughter Suri. It was the safety of her child above all that Holmes was setting on securing during the divorce.
Cruise, said People, "was a happy man and thought he had a happy life," said another source. "He keeps asking, 'What's happening?' "
Cruise will still have visitation rights to see Suri, though under guarded protection.
