Last night's game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Brooklyn Nets was a yawner as the Lebron James-led team easily cruised past their hosts to win the game, 110-88. The real highlight of the game happened on the sidelines as Prince William and Kate Middleton met and shook hands with King James and hip-hop royalties Beyonce and Jay-Z who is also a minority holder with the Nets. The Duke of Cambridge and his wife was in the Brooklyn game to mark a newly forged cooperation between their royal foundation and the NBA.
While many fans see the Lebron James, Prince William, Kate Middleton meeting as something momentous, an etiquette expert thinks the Cleveland Cavaliers star went too far with the way he accommodate the British Royals. He thinks King James was too cozy in front of Prince William and Kate. A Daily Mail UK post even came up with a post that reads:
"The moment sweaty basketball star LeBron James breached protocol by putting his arm around Kate's shoulder - before joke about William's shoe size leaves her in a fit of giggles."
Etiquette expert William Hanson said James should not have put his arms on Kate Middleton's shoulder when he handed Cleveland jerseys to her and his husband Prince William.
'Although I am sure the Duchess of Cambridge won't have worried about it, Mr James should not have put his arm around her.
'Americans are much more tactile than we Brits and this is another example of an American being too touchy feely with British royalty. You'd have thought they'd have learned by now.'
He event went on to say that before Lebron James meet Prince William and Kate Middleton after the game, the player should have taken a shower.
'A shower would have been preferable but he had just finished a game - so even more reason for him not have opened his pits by lifting his arm and placing it around Her Royal Highness!'
This post has put Lebron James, Prince William, Kate Middleton meeting in a bad light. However, according to People quoting a palace source, the Duchess does not want people to get intimidated by her.
"When they're meeting people, they want to have a conversation without the other person worrying too much about how to address them."
"The message is, address them in whatever way you feel most comfortable."
