After being married to Tom Cruise and a part of his church, the Church of Scientology, Katie Holmes has not only divorced him, she has also divorced his church.
Holmes has officially returned to the Catholic faith, registering as a parishioner at the Church of St. Francis Xavier in New York City, according to the Huffington Post.
By immediately embracing her former faith, Holmes is clearly sending a message that Cruise's dedication to Scientology may indeed have sparked her divorce from their five year marriage.
The church, located on 16th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, is known for inclusive thinking and its welcoming of many gay and lesbian Catholics.
"Everyone is thrilled to have Katie join us," a member of the church's choir said, according to the report.
"She has not yet attended a service, but when she does she will be welcomed with open arms."
According to TMZ, Holmes was afraid Tom Cruise was going to send 6-year-old Suri away to a hardcore Scientology organization known as Sea Organization. The church responded by saying that they do not allow anyone under the age of 16 to join this organizations, but that doesn't mean that Tom would not send her later.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes briefly address the subject of religion when they issued a joint statement following the dissolution of their marriage that read, "We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents."
