Kobe Bryant has been around dunking, shooting, and embarrassing defenders for more than half of his life now. Ever since joining the NBA at the age of 16 in 1996, the 36-year old shooting guard has become one of the sport's best. He won five championships and broke many records. One thing he can't beat though is father time. For many fans of the Los Angeles Lakers, seeing the Black Mamba away from the game is hard. The scarier part is that it could happen in two years, at least that what's Lakers GM Mike Kupchak claims.
In a post by NBA.com, Kupchack was quoted as saying that Kobe Bryant might not eye any extensions to his remaining two-year contract. He indicated that the last time that people will see is the 2015-16 NBA Season.
"All indications are, to me, from him, that this (two-year contract) is going to be it," Kupchak said. "If somebody's thinking of buying a ticket three years from now to see Kobe play, I would not do that. Don't wait. Do it this year."
In earlier interviews, Kobe Bryant said that he would want to play until 40. However, with all the injuries he contracted over the last few years, doing so becomes more difficult. If that happens, he will surely be regarded as one of the greatest ever to play the game and be up there with Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Magic Johnson, and more.
Speaking of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant cleared the air regarding his strong desire to break the Chicago Bulls legend's scoring record. As of this time, the Black Mamba is just 62 points away from surpassing Jordan's 32,292. Many fans criticize Kobe for his obsession to one-up the man he idolized. However, he said that he is not even thinking about it.
"I only think about it when I am asked about it," Bryant said. "I just go out there and play. It's something that is going to come eventually."
