Poor Anderson! Apparently, the well renowned reporter had disappeared from his CNN show, Anderson Cooper 360, last Monday night to which everyone was curious to know the reason why.
Cooper was generous enough to share to the public his condition and why he was absent from his show. He tweeted that he had appendicitis and that was why he was absent. The 47-year-old television personality says he had to be rushed immediately to the hospital to have the infected appendix removed from his body last Sunday and he will be back on the air by as early as Tuesday night.
According to his tweet, "I'll be back on air tomorrow. Had an appendicitis and had to have sudden surgery last night."
During last Monday night's show, CNN anchor John Berman covered the desk in Cooper's absence. However, he did not give no explanation for the absence.
Appendicitis is a somewhat common condition, but it can also be life-threatening if it is left untreated. It is a medical emergency that requires prompt surgery to remove the appendix, which is why the silver fox couldn't wait to have it removed. If left untreated, an inflamed appendix will eventually burst, or perforate and might spill infectious materials into the abdominal cavity. This can lead to peritonitis which is a serious inflammation of the abdominal cavity's lining (the peritoneum) that can be fatal to the patient unless it is treated quickly with strong antibiotics. Good to know humans can function normally without the appendix.
After a surgery to remove the infected organ, the usual recovery time for an appendectomy is typically relatively short. Cooper also reassured the public that he will be back once he recovers. In the United States, one in 15 people will get appendicitis and though it can strike at any age, appendicitis is rare under age 2 and most common between ages 10 and 30. If anyone can do it, Anderson can!
