(If you haven't seen the last episode, walk away now as this post is filled with spoilers).
American Horror Story: Freak Show definitely made up for its one-week absence through an utterly shocking episode. After taking a hiatus on November 26, the FX horror anthology series returned on TV on December 3 for an episode that some fans might not like. Two major characters were killed off and they were killed in the most shocking way. The episode was called "Blood Bath" and there were definitely blood all over.
The next American Horror Story: Freak Show episodes will no longer feature Kathy Bates' Ethel Darling and Frances Conroy's Gloria Mott after they were killed off in the last one. Ethel was killed by carnival freak show owner Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange) who she thinks is trying to separate conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler (Sarah Paulson). Gloria met her end on the show after she was shot by Dandy (Finn Wittrock).
While fans are shocked by the death of Ethel, Kathy Bates says it is something that didn't surprise her at all. In an interview with the Entertainment Weekly, the American Horror Story: Freak Show cast said having to leave the show didn't have much impact on her.
"A little bit. I wasn't devastated or anything," she said.
What worried her more is what she will do after American Horror Story: Freak Show.
"But I always prefer working. [Laughs] So when you're waiting and not knowing when you might appear next, you can't go on and do anything else at the moment. You're on hold. I'm much better when I'm working so that's what hit me more than anything was, "Oh my gosh-what am I going to do now?!"
While fans of the American Horror Story: Freak Show are still hurt because the FX show has already kicked Kathy Bates out twice. However, for the 66-year old actress, she is willing to comeback if given the chance.
"Well of course there is. I love Ryan. I love working with him and for him," Bates told the EW.
"One thing I didn't get a chance to say in my Emmy speech is that after Harry's Law and then I had gotten sick with breast cancer, I was really in the dumps. I was really like, "I'll never work again. I'm too old. Blah blah blah." Lo and behold, I get this amazing call from Ryan to come in and meet with him. He created these wonderful parts for me to play and I'll be forever in his debt for that. He's rejuvenated my career in a way that I have a young audience now and that's fabulous! So why wouldn't I want to come back for more of that?"
