Roger Federer won his seventh record setting Wimbledon title in London today.
The 30-year-old athlete finally equaled Pete Sampras' record at the All England Club, and won his 17th Grand Slam title overall, by beating Andy Murray 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday.
"It has worked out so many times over the years here at Wimbledon that I play my best in the semis and the finals," Federer said. "I couldn't be more happy. It feels great being back here as the winner."
In the audience was England Prime Minister David Cameron, David and Victoria Beckham and Kate and Pippa Middleton, the third-seeded Federer turned back the challenge of Scotland's fourth-seeded Andy Murray to win, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.
This was the Swiss players first major since the 2010 Australian Open.
Federer's wife and twin daughters were also in the audience, cheering their dad on as he played and applauding ecstatically as he went to collect his Wimbledon trophy.
Federer's triumph was his first at Wimbledon since 2009, his last major win coming at the Australian Open in 2010, when he also beat Murray.
