Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise are working towards settling their divorce case out of the courtroom, according to the latest media reports.
Since news of their split surfaced last week Friday, the superstar ex-couple appear to be trying to keep details of their divorce out of the public eye.
If reports are true that Cruise and Holmes are working towards a settlement, Cruise may come out more satisfied, according to Steven Stolar, a family law specialist with Stolar & Associates who has no connection to the case.
According to People magazine, Cruise "doesn't want his family dragged through the mud," says one source. "They both love their daughter."
Holmes, 33, who filed for sole legal custody, would like to bring up her daughter in New York City. Cruise, 50, lives primarily in Los Angeles, although he owns properties in Manhattan.
When the news of the split was announced, Holmes hoped that the divorce could stay as private as possible. "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," Holmes' attorney Jonathan Wolfe said in a statement on Friday.
While both parties have been relatively silent regarding the divorce, save the initial statements from their representatives when the divorce was announced this past Friday, Holmes was cornered at her local Whole Foods store this Wednesday by the New York Daily News, and briefly commented on her situation sine the announcement.
"I'm all right," the 33-year-old actress told the Daily News as she pushed a shopping cart carrying the couple's adorable daughter Suri. "Thank you," she said graciously.
