iPhone 5 Release Date set to August: Report

| By

In case you are one of the millions waiting for Apple to roll out its highly anticipated iPhone 5 and want to know its release date, the latest developments may come as a pleasant surprise.

If the reports are correct, the iPhone 5 release date could be just four short weeks away.

According to a series of reports originating from the Taiwanese media, the technology giant is set to release the iPhone 5 sometime in August.

A DigiTimes post reignited faith that iPhone 5 will have a quad-core processor, usually referred to as the A6, even though there's no indication that doubling the number of cores would actually deliver significant improvements to the user experience.

The reason for Apple to release in August would be to go up against their strong competitor, Samsung, and its updated batch of Smartphone's on the market.

Speculation has been swirling around the iPhone 5 release date. Previous rumors have said the product wouldn't launch until later in September or October of this year.

The iPhone 4s was launched late last year, in October of 2011, which has led many to believe that October 2012 will be the logical date for the newest iPhone to launch.

However, it's noted that since there was no announcement of the new iPhone's release this past June, it could indicate there's a different month for Apple to release the item in 2012.

Analysts are already weighing in on the new iPhone 5. According to analyst Shaw Wu, the Cupertino-based firm has reduced the number of iPhone orders by 20%-25% for the next quarter, in an article posted by Tech Radar.

Wu reckons that the decease is "due to the upcoming 6th generation iPhone refresh likely in the September-October timeframe".

Apple's iPhone 5 is set to have a larger than the current iPhone 4 and 4s, with a larger 4-inch display. It will offer a taller screen, but not a wider screen, according to gottabemobile.com.

This larger screen "would offer more room to read and see information in portrait mode and a wide-screen aspect ratio similar to what's found on HDTVs when the phone is turned on its side to watch TV or movies."
