Brooklyn Nine-Nine Cast Stephanie Beatriz Talks About Her Character's Soft Side And Having More Latinas On TV

| By

Stephanie Beatriz's Rosa Diaz is the no non-sense type of police in the Brooklyn Nine-Nine precinct. Compared to other characters, she does not want to play around. She wants to get the job done without any drama. She is mean to her colleagues for most of the times and will say straight up if there is something she does not agree with. You can probably count on the fingers of your hands the number of times she smiled. In the upcoming Brooklyn Nine-Nine episodes, will the audience finally see how vulnerable she is?

Talking to Latin Post, Stephanie Beatriz said that it is possible that Rosa Diaz might show her vulnerable side. However, there is no Brooklyn Nine-Nine episode yet dedicated for that.

"What I can tell you is there is some crossover with Rosa's personal life and Rosa's office life, and as you know, Rosa doesn't like that," she explained. "There is going to be a little vulnerability there."

She also expressed how happy she is with her 'bad-ass' character.

"I am getting to play a super-strong, badass female character, which doesn't happen too on TV," Beatriz told Latin Post. "Character development-wise, I am continuously delighted and surprised every day at work with every script that we read."

"I am just beside myself to get these bits and pieces of Rosa and building her has really been a true collaboration between the writers, directors and myself," she added. "It's always a creative challenge. It's really, really, really fun."

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is commended for featuring different races like Latinas. Aside from Beatriz, the Fox comedy series also has Cuban-American Melissa Fumero who plays Amy Santiago, a by-the-book cop who is most of the times is overreacting to their boss's orders. On the same interview with the Latin Post, Beatriz was asked what it is like to see more Latinas taking bigger roles on TV.

"Its an incredible that people of all ethnicities, not just Latinos, can turn on the TV and find people who look like themselves and the complexities that reflect their personalities," she added. "It's just an incredible time on television," she said.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Episode nine will air on November 30.
