Ariana Grande finally responded to Bette Midler's comments about her recently.
The young singer had posted to social media to respond to the legendary actress after she slammed Grande for "looking so ridiculous."
According to Grande's tweet, "Bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever the F they wanted without judgment! not sure where that Bette went but I want that sexy mermaid back!!! always a fan no matter what my love. and I will still quote first wives club every single day of my life lmao."
After the young singer's tweet, 68-year-old Bette Midler replied, "About my screed on @ArianaGrande, all I can say is, 'Spoken like a reformed old whore! She does have a beautiful voice, on a couch or off.'" Bette sent the tweet a little over an hour after Grande responded.
Just this week, things sparked when Midler spoke with The Telegraph in an interview, calling out Grande specifically for using their sex appeal to sell their albums instead of focusing on their talent. She voiced out, "It's terrible! It's always surprising to see someone like Ariana Grande with that silly high voice, a very wholesome voice, slithering around on a couch looking so ridiculous. I mean, it's silly beyond belief and I don't know who's telling her to do it."
Midler also added that she understood that it wasn't Ariana Grande's doing as well as those who manages her. She continued, "I wish they'd stop. But it's not my business, I'm not her mother. Or her manager. Maybe they tell them that's what you've got to do. Sex sells. Sex has always sold."
Midler also said that previously, things used to be more innocent. "Whatever strictures there were have fallen apart. And now it's whatever you feel like doing you can do. I mean, apparently people really like to pretend they're having sex. They really like to slap each other's butts."
