Ex-Tinder Executives Launch Dating App ‘Bumble,’ Where Women Make the First Move

| By

Former Tinder co-founder, Whitney Wolfe, together with other Tinder executives are reportedly prepping a new dating application called "Bumble."

Wolfe left Tinder after she filed a lawsuit against the company's CMO and ex-boyfriend, Justin Mateen for alleged sexual harassment, Mashable reports.

Wolfe now works with other Tinder executives including former Chief operating officer Chris Gulczynski and former Vice President of design Sarah Mick.

According to Bumble's description on its Facebook page, Bumble takes a "wholesome" approach to online dating, indirectly calling out (without name-dropping) Tinder or any other dating applications on the market today as "shallow" and "full of creepy guys and cheesy pick up lines."

"Bumble is an exciting, new place to meet people. It's everything you've always wanted from a social discovery app with none of the things you don't. Bumble suggests matches based on more relevant signals than other apps. So stop wasting time finding tons of dead end matches on other apps and switch to Bumble!"

Bumble promotes a respectful environment to meet people, and the app is said to be "changing the rules of the dating game."

With Bumble, users can connect their Facebook accounts with Bumble and the app automatically uploads their profile photos to their Bumble profiles. The app bares striking resemblance to Tinder's "card interface" design which is not surprising if indeed Mick worked on the app.

Users are then paired with people near their location, they can "swipe right" if they like the person and "swipe left" if they don't. What's unique about Bumble is that women make the first move within 24 hours of both users swiping right. Bumble intends for this feature to lessen the amount of "creepy" or "cheesy" pickup lines and make conversations between users meaningful and much safer.

Bumble is still on its early testing period as the Bumble web site says that the app is "coming soon."
