After news that finally the Tony Award Winning musical "Wicked" film adaptation is moving forward, news of possible cast members include Broadway-turned-Hollywood actor Lea Michele and English band member "One Direction" Harry Styles as frontrunner.
The original Broadway cast members of "Wicked" include "Frozen" actor and singer of the legendary "Let It Go" Idina Menzel (Elphaba) and "Pushing Daisies" actor Kristin Chenoweth, with Norbert Leo Butz as Fiyero. While all these cast members have since moved on to Hollywood (while remaining to work in Broadway), they probably will not be in the "Wicked" movie adaptation, and fans won't see them upon the release date-three words: "Glee" and "One Direction".
Early this year, Idina Menzel shared with "Watch What Happens: Live" that though she is above ecstatic about the development of "Wicked" film adaptation, she and Kristin Chenoweth will not be part of the cast. She says, "I would die to be in [the movie], except I'm afraid Kristin and I... they told us we're a little over the age for that."
Who's next in line to take on Elphaba on the upcoming "Wicked" adaptation? According to sources online, Lea Michele from "Glee" is among the top picks of Elphaba, while no news on Glinda cast has been revealed yet, Harry Styles of "One Direction" is reportedly being considered for the role of Fiyero.
While "Glee's" Lea Michele is actually a Broadway baby, gaining popularity from Dunkan Sheik's "Spring Awakening", she stepped into the spotlight as Rachel Berry in the musical television series "Glee". She is an obvious pick for the upcoming "Wicked" adaptation, as she has been regularly being compared to Idina Menzel in voice and well, physical appearance.
Another big star associated with "Wicked" film adaptation reveals British singer-songwriter from "One Direction", Harry Styles. "One Direction" member Harry Styles has the voice and stage presence as well as undeniable star power to bring to the "Wicked" film adaptation as Fiyero and fans worldwide are excited. Although nothing is set to stone, PerezHilton shares bits about "One Direction" Harry Styles' involvement upon "Wicked" release date. The site reports, "He's top of the Wicked team's wish list to play the romantic lead of Fiyero. Moviemakers see him as a new Zac Efron and think he would be a perfect casting for a movie musical."
"Wicked" release date has yet to be announced, however the film adaptation is deep in development, hopefully news of cast members will be revealed soon and hopefully this does include Lea Michele ("Glee") and Harry Styles ("One Direction").
