Google Maps is trying to be the one-stop travel app for its users by rolling out new features that lets users know more about their destinations' traffic, time and weather.
Weeks after Google Maps was redesigned, the app received another update which lets users depend on the app when searching for a destination by adding useful information about the destination.
Now, tapping on the pin will bring up snippets of information such as the time, local weather and a short description of the destination.
For example, PC World shares that touching the pin over the San Francisco Marriot Marquis described the hotel as having "sophisticated rooms in a modern high-rise, plus business perks, indoor pool and penthouse lounge. 4 stars."
Aside from that, for those who are on the road, Google Maps now has added a new feature that allows users to view the traffic situation in their destination by saying through voice commands: "show traffic" or "hide traffic." The new feature will also alert users of possible accidents or road closures, as well as time it takes to reach their destination as well as alternative routes to reach their destination.
This makes Google Maps a major contender and the app may become the all-in-one go-to app for travellers and drivers alike wanting to know more information about their destination, making it go head-to-head with Yelp, another app from Apple that does similar tasks, Tech Times reports.
However, not all users have received the update yet, or if they have, the new features are reportedly not yet activated. This will most likely not be a major problem for users who are checking out a place a few minutes away from them, but the new feature will definitely be useful for travelers who use Maps to check out hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions.
