Director of the first Insidious film and The Conjuring James Wan has given Insidious: Chapter 3 to his frequent filmaking partner, screenwriter and actor Leigh Whannell. Whannell also appeared in one of Wan's early horror/thriller films, Saw.
The third installment's plot is set prior to the events that happened in the first two films. Elise, played by Lin Shay, will once again team up with her team of paranormal activity hunters, Tucker (Angus Sampson) and Specs (played by the director himself) to investigate a teenage girl Sue (Stefanie Scott),who is haunted by malevolent entity from the Further. Appearing as Sue's father who calls on the investigative team for help is Dermot Mulroney.

The Insidious franchise, along with The, Purge, Paranormal Activity and The Conjuring are low budget films that rake in millions at the box office, a sort of horror genre in itself and has slowly been becoming a trend in the past years. Despite the franchise's success, many moviegoers debate that the second installment is inferior to its predecessor.
Meanwhile, James Wan has been busy with the sequel to last year's "The Conjuring". Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) return to solve another case; this time in England to investigate a family haunted by a Poltergeist.
Reports that New Line Cinema already has a plot in development for the sequel, this time with husband and wife team Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) picking up from the first installment about a case in Long Island. Ain't It Cool Newshas reported that they have been tipped about the plot of the sequel:
"The case file they're looking at occures in the late '70s and centers on two sisters in Enfield, England, who were allegedly possessed. Warren said she personally saw them levitate and even saw one of the sister dematerialize in front of her only to be found 20 minutes later stuffed into an oversized fuse box, contorted in such an unnatural way that they couldn't have replicated it if they tried. She also said that the demon spoke directly to her husband on many occasions. Warren cited this case as one of the most terrifying experiences of her career."
Insidious: Chapter 3 is expected to open in U.S. theaters on May 29, 2015.
