Now that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is already on its planning stage, at least in terms of the movie's plot, rumors are circulating that Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord (played by Chris Pratt), will finally get to know his father. How true is this?
Marvel fans very well know that Peter Quill's dad is J'son of Spartax, who's the emperor of an empire called Spartoi, which is composed of human-looking aliens. However, director James Gunn has revealed that it won't be the case in the next Guardians of the Galaxy installment.
He said he will veer away from the original story regarding Star-Lord's father, and he will only appear for story's sake, not to make a big deal out of it. "It's funny, I don't want to blackbox it too much. You know what I mean? Yeah, it's like, we'll find out who his dad is, and it's going to serve the story. It's not going to be something like in the Crying Game, though, where the big thing was, 'He has a penis!' [or The Sixth Sense's big twist]. I don't want to do that. It's not about the revelation of who it is; it's about what his relationship is to that character," the director mentioned.
Moreover, director Gunn has his own ideas for the character of Star-Lord's dad, which he thinks will be more fitting for the movie. "I just thought there was a more interesting way to go for the cinematic universe that was more believable. There's things in the comic that on film were a little too Star Wars for me. And I'm not a big fan of the name J'son. [Laughs]"
Now that we know Star-Lord's father will not be named J'son, as well as he will have an entirely different character, the remaining question is who's gonna play the role. Who do you think is perfect for the role of Star-Lord's dad? Let us know in the comments section below.
