Are you a fan of the Today show? If yes, you might wake up tomorrow and find out that there are new set of faces talking in your television screens.
Why is that? Well, the show's producers have cut employees, particularly those employees that you see in the show everyday - Willie Geist and Natalie Morales.
According to a source in NBC, Today's show co-hosts Willie Geist and Natalie Morales "were recently told they were fired." In the new issue of Us Weekly, the insider revealed the shocking news. The insider added that the 39-year-old host, Geist, has actually lined up a gig at CBS.
In the show's attempt to beat their rival show, Good Morning America's ratings, NBC is currently shaking things up at the morning show. However, after the shocking layoffs were announced, NBC also let go of their general manager Jamie Horowitz, who is actually the most vocal proponent of the changes.
Us Weekly had obtained a memo from NBC that had Deborah Turness explaining why Horowitz was fired. According to Turness, Horowitz was simply "not the right fit." Currently, it's still unclear whether Geist and Morales will indeed be leaving the show. Or if the current management will actually try to win them both back.
The insider also revealed that there might be other ideas "floating around", including demoting their fellow co-host Tamron Hall back to MSNBC as well as adding Good Morning America's Josh Elliot as a newsreader. The insider also said that Hoda Kotb, who currently occupies the 10 a.m. hour together with Kathie Lee Gifford, might also be asked to join the 9 a.m. hour.
However, another source tells Us that these ideas may never come to life. The source explained further, "An executive went rogue and got fired for suggesting crazy ideas no one agreed with,"
