Apple is planning to build a 3-D display on its next iPhone, which would once again change the phone-game forever.
According to Economic Daily News, the next iPhone would be "glasses-free 3D". That means it would be a naked eye setup. It couldn't be built using the present embedded touch technology Apple has used in the past, but the site says Apple would again ask touch screen manufacturer TPK to develop the upcoming iPhone.
You cannot terminate the possibilities easily as there may be some truth in this rumor. The Taiwanese media website Economic Daily News has a decent record in providing Apple's upcoming products news, delivered a lot of accurate news about iPhone before. It's possible that Apple is planning to make 3-D displays one of the top features of its next iPhone, much like Siri and Touch ID were for iPhone 5 and 4 models.
Apple has previously experimented on 3-D smartphone technology. Six years ago, they applied for a glasses-free, stereoscopic 3-D display patent. That's not the only 3-D-oriented patent on Apple's books. It's also applied for a patent for a 3-D "hyper reality" display that adjusts the perspective of the phones home screen according to users head movements with the help of software and hardware to get the 3-D effects. In a possibly related move, Apple also bought up 3-D technology company, PrimeSense, which is an Israeli maker of chips that enable 3D-machine vision. They created the original Kinect sensor for Microsoft's Xbox 360.
The lone manufacturer who is working on "glasses-free 3-D" beside Apple is Amazon. There Fire Phone uses head-tracking sensors to present the user with a faux-3D environment. Google has a similar sort of project which they called as "Project Tango". HTC and LG are the other company's which have projects on 3D. But Apple has a very good chance to shake up this particular area as no one has been significantly succeed in 3D.
