One Direction's Zayn Malik reacts to the comment of The Today's Show. The singer was reported to be "angry and upset" that an American television host presumed and alleged whether he is using drugs.
The 21-year-old singer was supposed to be interviewed on the US morning program on Monday but unfortunately, he was unable to join his bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan because of an illness.
The Today Show's host Matt Lauer questioned the group on Zayn's absence on the show, mentioning that there were "rumors of substance abuse". Zayn reacted to what the host said in his absence and that he ventured into that topic on live television.
According to Zayn, "I'm really angry and upset by what was said on The Today Show. I was really ill at the weekend, that's why I couldn't fly to America." He revealed his feelings on the British newspaper The Sun.
At the time Zayn was out sick and after the host questioned Zayn's absence, his bandmate Liam told the anchor that Zayn was suffering from a "tummy bug". However, the journalist did not seem satisfied with Liam's answer and tried to push further. The anchor said, "There has been a lot of action on social media about him. Is it something more serious than just a minor illness? There have been rumors of substance abuse: what's going on?"
In response to the anchor's questions, Liam answered again that his bandmate was at home with "a stomach bug" and said that Zayn "needs to rest". The anchor's line of questioning was not well received by One Direction fans in the audience as he got plenty of boos.
Zayn continued to tell The Sun that "As soon as I'm feeling better I'm going to join the guys and carry on with the promotion for the album."
