NYX Cosmetics announced on Friday that they launched a new YouTube-based competition called the Fine Artistry of Cosmetic Elites (FACE) Awards, where they will choose their "Beauty Vlogger of the Year," as a way to showcase new makeup artists in the beauty marketing community.
The cosmetics company, which prides itself for its full line of "affordable luxury" makeup products, said the press release issued by NYX Cosmetics, launched the competition back on March 6 for aspiring makeup artists to send videos of them creating stylish and artist looks, to be judged by a panel to choose the top 30 contestants. The contestants, noted the press release, had to participate in three challenges where they had to create looks under categories like 'Retro 80s" and "Dark Shadows."
"Over the years, beauty vloggers have grown into one of the most robust, energetic communities on YouTube and across the web," Toni Ko, Founder and Chief Creative Director, NYX Cosmetics, stated for the press release. "We realized the overwhelming support this community has given us over the years so produced this event to give back and reward them for their passion and creativity."
Throughout the nearly-three month competition, the original top 30 chosen were narrowed down to 20 and then 12, and eventually voted for by the public, who got to watch the how-to tutorials online. The six finalists, who will present their designs and final looks at a live runway competition on Sunady, June 24th at the Pasadena Convention Center during IMATS (International Makeup Artist Trade Show), according to the press release, will be choose in a matter of days. The grand prize winner will receive a cash prize of $25,000, gain access to "influential beauty insiders," said the press release, have a chance to consult with top industry experts, and gain national publicity. The five runners-up will be handed a year's supply of NYX Cosmetics.
NYX Cosmetics stated that since the FACE Awards were launched in March, the website received over seven million hits after having gone viral on the internet, and at one point receiving a record-breaking 30 percent increase in traffic for a single day, confirmed the press release. With the contest's end nearing, thousands more viewers have visited the site, and continued to vote for the final six and eventual winner.
